The first 82 stations to have Internet connectivity were announced back in the beginning of June. Virgin Media, TfL’s partner for the service, has now turned on free Wi-Fi service at 73 stations on the London Underground, as it pushes forward with its plan to resell the Tube service to other operators.
Virgin Media said it was “a truly historic moment, as we connect millions of tube passengers to the wonderful world of the internet for the first time”. Access will be free for all until the end of the Olympics, allowing would-be spectators to check the progress of events while they queue for a train. From September, free access will be limited to the Virgin Media customers and TfL travel news.
