A landing page is a specific web site page (usually designed by a graphic designer or a web designer) that is shown when a visitor has clicked on a link or an advertisement. This leads the visitor straight to a webpage giving him or her all the information about a specific item. Most of the time, the visitor arrives from a search engine (for example Google or Yahoo) or a marketing advertisement. A web site landing page is designed to give information about a specific product or service which will lead to making a quick online sale or receiving the users details for use in possible marketing or sales activities in future.

It is important that the design of the landing page meets the expectation of the visitor. The landing page should be very focused and only provide information relating to the product or service in question. Whereas a web site incorporates a variety of information, a landing page is dedicated to serving few marketing objectives in order to capture the users interest and complete the intended transaction in the minimum amount of time possible.

Some tips when designing landing page:

  • Use a simple design (don’t confuse the visitor with too much information)
  • Try to include graphic images or photos in the design to capture the users attention
  • Focus on one specific product or service
